Masahiro heaved a long sigh as he looked onto the computer screen as he had been for most of the night. The sigh was nearly inaudible though considering he was currently on the phone conversing with a concerned parent. They were asking millions of questions on whether this was the right place for their child and if their child really should come here. This sort of thing was trying on the nerves after three hours, even when it came to Masa who had just about the longest fuse of anyone. "Yes, she'll be cared for." He replied, the answer having been given to the lady numerous times over the course of their conversation. "I assure you. I'll look over her personally. I promise." It seemed like the conversation was finally drawing to a close and Masa had to hold back a sigh of relief. True, he found it endearing the way the woman cared for her daughter, but he had assured her over and over again that she would be fine here. If that wasn't enough, then he didn't know what was.
After a few more minutes of mindless chatter, the lady told him bye and hung up, which he reciprocated courteously. Once he put the phone back on the receiver his hand immediately went to his temples as he felt an on-coming headache. He truly was starting to reconsider his job. As he saw a few kids pass by his office though, he smiled slightly and felt guilty for such a thought. These kids needed all the help they could get and Masa was going to offer them all he could. "Comes with the territory." He mumbled to himself before rolling his chair over to his computer and starting to put in some more information on some of the newer patients. With his eyes on the screen he let them flicker over to the clock on the side of it and noticed how late it was. All the patients were going to be going to bed soon and he'd be up punching in information all night again. This made yet another sigh escape his lips. It seemed he wouldn't be getting home to get his sister from his friends' house today. That thought saddened him a bit, but he continued on with his work.
The story behind the kid he was typing in tugged at his heartstrings. But really, which kid's story didn't? All these kids came from bad pasts and it made him feel rather protective over them. Masa was normally someone who was protective, but now it was even more so due to the fact these kids needed all the protection they could get. Not a lot of them had family or friends they could run to if things got bad. Thinking such a thing, Masa believed himself to be lucky. Sure, his parents had never been the best, but at least they'd been there. Plus, he'd always had his older brother and friends to counter balance the rift between his parents and himself. Most of these kids didn't. Ever emotional, Masa felt a few tears prick the edges of his eyes, but he wiped them away quickly. He didn't need to be getting like this so late at night and in the face of so much work.
In an effort to banish such saddened thoughts, Masa stood up and made his way to the staff bathroom. Bypassing everything else in the quaint bathroom, he went to stand in front of the sink. His reflection peered back at him, but he paid it no mind as he turned on the cold water and splashed some onto his face. It sent a chill down his spine at how cold it was, but he didn't mind it. It helped to wake him up, even if just a bit. As he finished with that he carefully turned the water off and looked over to blindly grope for a paper towel since his eyes were closed. When he felt none, he shrugged a bit and pulled his shirt up to his face to wipe the excess water off as he left the bathroom, baring the long planes of his stomach as he did so. Once he finished that, however, he walked over to the lobby, poured him a glass of coffee, and walked back over to his office to continue on his work, sipping his coffee repeatedly as he did so.
